"Ok guys, Felix is right: this is a thread about opinions – so here i'm back with mine
Although most of the listeners seemed to like the performance (or even the sound) of the 15As, i did not. It was much too bright, too harsh, too spitty. The sound was kind of "glued" to the horns wich had strong resonances. This is absolutely NOT the way a 15A system can & should sound – in my opinion.
To me it seemed that the sound was intended to be like it was. It wasn't the bad room acoustics or something. It could have been improved easily by positioning the 15As vertically. So in the end it's a matter of taste. Best thing was the huge subwoofer slot/baffle wich was hardly noticable (at least acoustically ). But to be honest: if i was looking for this kind of sound, i would buy a modern JBL PA-system for a few hundred bucks.
So on the one hand i'm a little bit sad, because so many visitors may think THIS was the sound of a 15A system, and on the other hand i'm happy as hell about my 15A system sounding much better, though it still is far from its optimum.
BTW: i liked the big G.I.P system much more. Seems to be logical that Silbatone didn't really want to let G.I.P loose too much beside the "old lady"
Have fun,
Peter"

Dear afficionados,
as a "WE-wrecking member" I returned back to my office, after travelling around 800 km on my bike to see/hear/taste WE and Klangfilm stuff.
My opinion:
Great show and performance !
Thanks to Mr Chang, who is a very generous and friendly person and - of course Joe Roberts, with his passion and work for this great audio heritage !
Unfortunately exact Aldo's and my humble opinion seem to have been proofed:
WE 15A/B has to bee seen ans OPERATED int its context, it is an entire system-
Put a Ferrari engine in a mini. RESULT/VERDICT could be resumed as : "terrible engine".
In another chassis you could have won 24 hours of LE MANS.
The WE 15A/555 combo
should have been powered be SILVERLESS WE PP (or RCA, BROOK, ALTEC. MOTIOGRAPH) amps,
should have had TUNGAR power supply,
should have been combined with closed back WE 555s,
should have been supported by pure paper cap filtered 597
should have the 597 mounted ASIDE or UNDER the 555
should have been suspended from the roof or from a cradle
should have had more FELT in its cavity, going up to the metal part of the horn
should habe been supported by FC 13,5" or 18" WOOFERS in OB or dedicated WECO basshorn.
But nebertheless, I was greatrful to meet good friends and experts here and at A 23 boutique, powered by Mr. Aschenbrenner and his great KF speakers.
Phantasti woodwork, cool styling, great atmosphere and: GREAT MUSIC !
That is it for now.
CHEERS,
PPG
